Canadian Institute of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) Research is committed to promote research, education, clinic service and knowledge transfer in complementary and alternative medicine and traditional medicines


A: To promote the overall complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) research knowledge transfer and   exchange and encourage more experienced scientists and specialists to participate CAM research, education and supervision.

B: To develop natural health products for the improvement of health care and life qualities of Canadians and people in other countries.

C: To foster and advance the clinical trials of CAM therapies to evaluate their effects in human beings.

D: To collaborate with other institutions to not only investigate the pharmacological effects of natural products but also to elucidate the underlying scientific mechanisms of action of other CAM therapies (e.g. acupuncture, acupressure, massage, etc.) to further facilitate the acceptance of CAM therapies by mainstream and provide more therapeutic choices for Canadians.

E: To create, collect and share the knowledge, methodologies, technologies and facilities for the identification and evaluation of natural products (e.g. Chinese herbs, Aboriginal herbs, other botanical herbs, natural components, etc.) to the guarantee of the qualities, effects and safeties of the   natural products.

F. To help developing countries for their traditional medicine existing and growing.
